Scared I have a mouth metastasis

Options

Hi All, I'm super scared I have a mouth metastasis. I had breast cancer four years ago and I'm on tamoxifen. For the past few months, sometimes after I eat I get a blister on the roof of my mouth. It's very tight and uncomfortable. It lasts for a few days. The food is not overly hot. It has been happening more often and lasting for longer. I'm going to the dentist on January 3 so I can ask him. I saw my oncologist a few months ago but didn't ask her- I think I wrote it on the symptoms list with a million other side effects from tamoxifen but she didn't bring it up. But now that it's been happening this long I'm getting so worried. What does a mouth metastasis look like? Thank you so much if you know anything about this and can help me. Is anyone else getting this on tamoxifen? Maybe it's just the meds? I have attached a photo. Thanks for your help.

If it was metastasis, it would not come and go, to the best of my knowledge. It does look uncomfortable though, so I'm glad you're getting it checked. Do report back what your dentist says.

I agree with Kbee. Mouth sores are mighty uncomfortable, but cancer does not come and go. Additionally, the mouth/skin are uncommon sites for bc mets (though not impossible). I have actually never heard of anyone with mets to the inside of their mouth (again, not saying it couldn’t happen). I hope your dentist can provide some answers, but I suspect that “mouth mets” would be unlikely. All the best.

ps You're right! I found it on the web about mouth cancer- "Lumps that come and go are not usually due to cancer."

I started getting a weird blister inside my lower lip that would comeand go and I finally figured out it was from the turmeric supplement I was taking. Stopped the supplement and I was cured. Weird! Maybe yours will be something as simple.

Yes, I'm starting to suspect it's from pineapple since I had eaten pineapple the last few times I got it. Thanks for telling me about the turmeric causing yours.

I love pineapple and if it’s a sweet one I can eat a lot in one sitting. However, it does tear my mouth up!

Yes maybe that's it! I hope so! I will try not eating it at all anymore.

Just another reason I love this site. We need each other to talk ourselves off the ledge when strange symptoms come up. So glad you had other people to give you advice ocean girl.

Oceangirl654, google "mucocele," which is what this looks like to me. It's harmless.

hello oceangirl:) I’m a dentist and although I can’t give a total diagnosis I’ll say just based on the image and description of symptoms it does not look like a metastatic/cancerous lesion. Looks actually like a mucocele which is a benign oral lesion. It’s usually caused by salivary gland blockage. I’m interested to know what your dentist says but I would rest easy my dear :)

Thank you so much! It's very kind of you to look at the photo for me and tell me what you think! It is a huge relief to know it's probably a mucocele. I will look that up. I had been looking all over the internet but couldn't find anything that looked like it. Thank you so much for your opinion. Very best wishes to you x I will let you know what my dentist says but he'll probably say the same thing so that's good!

Every time I eat fresh pineapple the roof of my mouth is painful...and blisters, just like yours. Strangely enough canned or cooked doesn’t bother me.... must destroy whatever flaresit up.

Oh, I had one of those when I was having salivary gland issues one year. I had the jaw swelling and got that taken care of, then the inside one. Eating lemon drops fixes the clogged gland. Also had a tiny seed from something squirt into my mouth lining once, hurt like hell, like a tiny beebee pellet. It took a while to get that worked out because it had embedded itself in the cheek so firmly!

Egads007, Wow I'm so glad to hear it might be pineapple, and that you had the same exact blisters from it. If that's all it is, that would be wonderful!! I can just avoid pineapple. I hope that's it! Thanks so much for telling me.

AliceBastable, Thanks for telling me about the lemon drops. I will try them if it happens again.

Dreamers, how sweet of you to come and post. Why can't I find a compassionate dentist like you!!! I'll spare you my horror story!

Oceangirl, I was going to post similarly on the food possibility. Hope that proves to be your offender and you can relax.

awww. Thanks guys! We’re in this together of course I would respond! This disease has opened up my eyes to so many oral health issues we face as a result of these awful (yet lifesaving!) treatments. The day I was diagnosed I was supposed to be signing the lease on my new dental practice. Needless to say that dream was temporarily put on hold. I’ve since signed a new lease and have made it my goal to offer compassionate and specialized care for patients preparing for, undergoing and recovering from cancer treatments. My 2019 wish godwilling

I was getting one of those on the inside of my lower lip and I didthe same thing. What if? Then realized it was because my husband bought blowpops and I had a handful over a couple of months. Scared me!

Dreamers1989, that is a wonderful goal. I hope you can have your own practice very soon!

Jenkins00, the fear is the worst part of this disease, and the various discomforts. Glad your blister was nothing serious.

A couple years back I bumped my head, hard, on the hatch of my Prius. A big lump swelled up on my scalp. "I wonder if it's cancer?" I thought, as I rubbed the sore spot.

Our mental processes are forever altered by this disease. Even now, almost 8 years later, I wonder (although increasingly briefly) about every twinge or bump.

Hi all, I wanted to give you an update. I went to the dentist. First the dental assistant looked at the photos I brought and she said that is looks like a mucocele but it can't be since there's no saliva duct right there. Then the dentist came over and looked at the photos and said it might be a mucocele, but I didn't ask him about the saliva duct being there or not. I should have! He said pay attention to what I eat before I get it- probably the food is making the saliva thicker and then it's blocking the duct. Both said that it doesn't look like cancer, so that's very good! That's the main thing!

I have had it again twice since then. But it wasn't after eating pineapple. Once it was after eating empanadas and guava juice. And today it was after eating a cinnamon waffle and green tea with honey, lemon, and echinacea. So weird! It's very uncomfortable and makes my mouth all tense until it goes away two days later. And, once I get it, it gets worse every time I eat. So annoying!

Anyway, if anyone has any ideas what could be causing it, I'd love to know.

I still think it's a peptic ulcer. Once you get one, you are prone to them. caused by a virus...
