Lymph nodes, breast lump, axillary node thickened cortex
Hi All,
I'm a 32 y/o female with history of thyroid nodules, 2 cm left breast tubular adenoma which I found during pregnancy in 2015, was monitored by breast specialist and resolved in 2017. Currently have systematic swollen lymph nodes being monitored by specialist. Mother currently being treated for Stage IIA breast cancer Her2 +

Is there anyone here that can shed some 'positive' light/stories of cortical thickening around a prominent axillary lymph node where it ended up not being anything sinister?
For the past 3 months I have had sore and lumpy breasts with symptoms increasing early on in my menstrual cycle along with extremely painful underarms both sides. I believed it to be hormonal. Noticing the pain and lumps more prominent on the right side, a month ago I organised an US and only yesterday got my results.
Results pretty much show what I was expecting plus some:
1. Fibrocystic changes in breast, right more than left. 2. Multiple ovoid hypoechoic lesions in left breast demonstrating mostly b9 features and my represent complicated cysts or small fibroadenoma. 3. Indeterminate lesion right breast 1 o'clock 3 cm from nipple which may represent a cluster of complicated cysts. How ever given it's atypical features further assessment with US guided biopsy is suggested to exclude neoplastic lesion. 4. Prominent right axillary node with mildly thickened cortex measuring up to 5.3 mm is equivocal, pending the biopsy results of the right breast 1 o'clock lesion.
I was expecting news on cysts and a possible breast biopsy. I was not expecting the lymph node cortical thickening... this part has thrown me into a whirlwind of worry. Does anyone know of a not-so-sinister reason for a thickened axillary lymph node cortex?
Research I have done suggests 3 mm is the max thickness a normal axillary lymph node displays on US, mine measured up to 5.3 mm. I don't want to seem as though I am holding onto only a small piece of 'the bigger picture' but considering I currently have multiple swollen lymph nodes (both sides axillary, both sides groin and neck) which have been monitored for the last 6 months+ and learning that one of them has a new abnormal feature along with the indeterminate breast lesion has got me anxious.
It's the weekend here so I will be calling first thing Monday morning to organise my breast biopsy. My doctor has said she will also book me into a breast specialist clinic pending on the biopsy results. I think I will ask to be booked in regardless just to be proactive.
Thank you for reading thus far... does anyone have any advice on my situation?
