Second Opinions?

So I got my biopsy results back and they were negative with possibility of a cyst bursting. I do have large breasts with alot of fibroids, I always get call backs on every mammogram I have. Would it be overkill to consult a breast specialist anyway? Would I consult an oncologist or a breast surgeon? I do already have an oncologist who is treating me for an unrelated blood disorder.

When all this started for me in November my internist told me to get a second opinion even if the biopsy result is negative. He is on the hospital tumor board. You can have a second biopsy at a different hospital or (I think) you can have your slide sent to another hospital (preferably a NCI approved facility). If you live in a big enough town a second biopsy at a different hospital would probably be the quickest way to go.

While I saw my breast surgeon for breast cancer, several of my friends had seen her for things that were not cancer. They weren't sure and wanted a second opinion. She reviewed their test results and in one case, had an additional test performed. It may depend on the type of practice, but she handles other types of breast issues besides cancer.

Ultrasound and breast biopsy said I definitely had a fibroadenoma. Breast specialist thought it was fibro but agreed to remove it. It turned out to be a phyllodes. A second opinion can be crucial! If in doubt check it out.
