Dear Forum Members,

I wanted to follow up with you about the California Breast Cancer Research Program's Global Challenge to Prevent Breast Cancer (ToPreventBreastCancer.org), which I posted about here in September when we launched.

We are in the final stretch of the challenge, with less than a month to go before applications are due on January 7, 2019. If you have a bold research idea, please submit it today, and if you know of others who might want to present an idea, please let them know that the deadline is on the horizon.

The challenge is designed to surface ground-breaking breast cancer prevention research ideas. Of the nearly $2 billion that is spent annually on breast cancer research, less than 10 percent is dedicated to prevention research. The time is now to launch an entirely new direction in breast cancer research, focused on prevention. We want to uncover all ideas – from researchers, physicians, cancer survivors, advocates, your neighbors, and mine. We have streamlined the application to make it accessible to people from all walks of life and professions. Now is the perfect time to apply, and it's not too late to submit a strong application!

Challenge winners will influence $15 million in grant funding to be disseminated by CBCRP over the next five years, and get a cash prize, while all applicants will receive feedback on their idea, and finalists will have the opportunity to present their idea to prominent leaders in the field at an event we are hosting in the spring.

Please note that we are looking for ideas from anyone interested in breast cancer primary prevention, whether or not you are a researcher. We are looking for ideas from across the globe, and you do not need to be in California to apply.

If you or others have questions, please reach out to us at Challenge@CABreastCancer.org. We are happy to answer questions about the application process, awards, judges, and more. Together, we can catalyze the field of breast cancer prevention research!

Please share this post with anyone you think might have a brilliant idea!

Sincerely,

Nick Anthis
