Boniva Side Effects - Switching to Fosamax for Osteopenia

I was recently diagnosed with Osteopenia and began taking Boniva in November so I have only taken 2 pills (it is taken once per month). Rarely do I ever have any side effects from meds. In fact, I have none from Arimidex even though many people do. Within a few days of taking the first dose I had flu symptoms that lasted 9 days. My nausea and diarrhea were so severe that I thought I might have had food poisoning. My doctor sent a stool sample to the lab and nothing showed up. I took the second dose a couple of weeks ago. Again, within a few days I felt quite ill but this time also had a headache which has been pretty constant for a week. I am going to destroy dose 3 and switch to Fosamax which is a weekly pill. Unfortunately, my sister also had terrible side effects from this drug. She took it for nearly 7 years before switching to Prolia. I was offered Prolia but thought I would try the cheaper drugs first because my insurance only pays 50% of the twice yearly Prolia and my cost was going to be $800 per shot. Anybody have similar problems with Boniva? Any comments about Fosamax? Thanks in advance!
