5 yrs later, annual mammogram shows micro-calcifications

I don't post often, but I have a question. I had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation 5 yrs ago for my TN diagnosis. Today I had a routine diagnostic mammogram and calcifications were found on the same breast behind my nipple. A recommendation of a 6 month repeat of the mammogram was suggested although I was told requesting a biopsy would not be a problem. I have a previously scheduled routine appointment with my breast surgeon next week and will I request a biopsy, I just want to be proactive. I guess my question is how worried should I be?

I had micro-calcifications in the non-cancer breast. They were checked and ended up being fine. I was told they are most commonly not a matter of concern. Because of the TNBC in my right side, I was also told they would keep a close eye on that breast. I ended up going with a bilateral mastectomy but not specifically due to the micro-calcifications. I hope it turns out to be nothing.

elindy, I know its hard not to worry given your history. I too am TN and I had to make a concious decision not to Google too much about tnbc so I could live my life without excess fear of recurrence. Try your best not to worry as all that will do is make you feel anxious and nervous with negative energy. It is great you are being proactive and getting the biopsy. I would do the same thing in your situation. I am praying the calcs are benign. Here is a link to other benign causes of calcs. I don't know if you are a believer, but here is a link to some bible verses to help ease worry and anxiety. I pray you get a good report!

Thanks Flynn and Shoregirl - I should get a better understanding of the calcifications after my appointment with my breast surgeon and her review of the films. I see no good reason for the wait and see option and the biopsy is the way to go. Thanks again.
