Impatiently waiting for Oncotype Result
I've been looking around these boards for a few months now, but this is my first post.
I'm now well into week four (4) of waiting for my Oncotype recurrence score and I'm starting to go a little crazy! I had an appointment with my oncologist to receive the news, but after waiting in the exam room (doctor was running late), the nurse came in and said the test result is still pending and my appointment will be rescheduled for next week.....I was totally prepared to be told that chemo was in my future and I can totally handle that possibility. What I'm not handling well, is not knowing and not being able to plan anything. I feel like my life in on hold and next week seems impossibly far away right now. I'm trying to stay busy to keep my mind off all the swirling thoughts, but its getting increasingly harder!
Just venting and looking to possibly join forces with others impatiently waiting for a test result :-)

I’m sure you are on anxiety overload. I had the test done but it only took 2 weeks to get my results. Did your doctor say why it’s taking so long? What does that mean pending? Pending what?
I would call and ask them what pending means? They have to know and hopefully care that you are a nervous wreck. I don’t wait well anyway so I can’t imagine enduring the delays you are going through.
Try and stay busy and keep as distracted as you can.
Keep the faith and keep us posted.

hi mud stick,
I know how frustrating that feels, I hated the wait for my oncotype results.
What you could do is call the genomic health and find out the status. They will ask you for some details then let you know if its ready. You can also get a copy from them i think if you fill a form and send it back.
It shouldn't take that long for you to get your results, sorry you're going through that.

This same thing happened to me too, only I was waiting on a Mammaprint report. Didn’t receive it until a month after surgery and yet if I needed chemo, it would have had to start the following week. I basically decided to do chemo without the score because the tumor grade was 3, size was 3 cm and I have family history of cancer. While I was sitting getting my first treatment, he showed me the test that said I had a high chance of recurrence. So chemo was the right decision anyway.
My onc waited too long to order the test. Pretty sure that’s what happened, plus holiday excuses for thanksgiving.
So....I understand the frustration! It’s a big decision to make and recurrence chance is stressful not to know! I think November will go down as my worst monthever, because of that stress of waiting and not knowing.

Lillian - I would have done the chemo too with a Grade 3 tumor.

Diane, thank you. I appreciate the confirmation. Really grappled with that decision without the report....but grade 3 scared me....A LOT! Still does. So, my chemo is working now, and I like to think this cancer has its hands full right about now here on day 4!

Thanks everyone for you responses!
I just got a call from the Oncologist's office and my RS is 14.....
I have an appointment on Tuesday to discuss options with my Doc. Its certainly not high risk, but I would have liked a nice clear number, under 10!! I dislike that the prospective studies don't go out beyond 9 to 10 years. I would like to live another 40 years disease free!!! I'm certainly not afraid of chemo, even if the benefit is marginal.
Guess I will hear what the oncologist has to say next week.

My score was 11 so I dodged chemo. I did have 33 radiation treatments that weren’t bad at all. My BC was grade 1 so that influenced my treatment plan as well.

mudstick you can see my stats. Im 43 too. Onocotype was 15. Got 3 different opinions, not one said chemo was necessary or beneficial.
