Nipple retraction?

Hope someone can help.

I recently noticed that my nipple pulls in when I raise my arm and also when I learn forward. The opposite nipple has not changed.

Sometimes it can look quite normal so I am unsure as to whether I need to get it checked.

I did have a routine mammogram earlier this year which was normal.

As you can see i do have a history of DCIS which was treated over four years ago.

Any similar experiences or opinions on what the cause might be would be helpful

That kind of retraction with those particular motions requires further evaluation.

Which breast is symptomatic? Which breast had the surgery? Was the surgery just behind that nipple?

If the symptoms started after that mammogram you might need more imaging.

Do you have the report of that recent mammo? Does it mention scarring on the side of your new retractions?

Any recent weight loss?

The issue is with the breast that had surgery and radiotherapy over four years ago. The surgery was to outer quadrant of my breast (the scar runs from the far side up to the edge of areola)

I only noticed it a couple of weeks ago, so this is very new.

I don't have details of the mammogram earlier this year other than it was normal.

I think I will make an appointment for after Christmas to get it checked. I just wondered if it might be normal ageing.

Mine started turning to the left (tumor was left breast, outer lower quadrant). It was very subtle at first, like only if I moved a certain way, as you described. I had a mammo and US that showed nothing abnormal. I followed up with a BS and he said it was normal changes to the breast as we age (I was 29 at the time) and I had recently quit breastfeeding my 3rd son. He did not recommend a biopsy at this time. As the months went on, the nipple was turning more and more and I had an indentation that was becoming more pronounced. These changes were evident regardless of my position or moving around. After almost 2 years, I went back for another mammo and US and the BS strongly recommended a biopsy this time....the rest, they say, is history.

If you think something is wrong, PUSH for more testing! I wish I had pushed two years ago for a biopsy and maybe I would not be a Stage III now....Good Luck, and don't put it off!
