Hard ridge after lumpectomy
hello ladies,
I have a question about my lumpectomy. I was done last june and luckily no malignant cells found. But from august i have a firm ridge in the lumpectomy area (bottom of breast). The ridge is close to the scar but not parallel to it. More perpendicular. I have small breasts (a cup) and they removed 3 pieces of 1 by 1 inch. So pretty much i quess. The ridge hurts after massaging it for a while so i assume it is also a bit of breast tissue. I know the surgeon displaced some tissue to make the dent less visible which it is. Maybe it is scarring from stitching the pieces internally back together?
I had an ultrasound in september which was good. No strange things seen. Does enyone know if this could be scarring? It is a pretty straight ridge and hurts.
Thanks a lot!!

Hello Sunshine:
I just had a lumpectomy on Nov 8. I also have a small breast, so the surgeon kept telling me how big my tumor was: 5x2x3 mm relative to my breast. It's the start of the 4th week. There is also a ridge, and if I touch the area around the ridge, everything still feels sore. I dare not press too hard to find out as I don't know if its healed yet. I don't know yet if there is scarring. My BS doesn't tell me much. She just said she moved some tissues around.
Did you get a clear margin and did you need follow up treatment?

hi MsStoic
fortunately i had benign fibrosis so no foloow up needed. I am sorry for you needing more treatment. (What kind of treatment do you need?). Really happy that you posted a reply. Mine is also still sore and the operation was back in june... Is your ridge along the scarline or more perpendicular?
My surgeon also noted up front that she would move things around. But after the surgery nobody felt the ridge. But it cannot be cancer, because the pathology and ultrasound in september was fine. I just really hate that i went in to remove a lumpy ridgy area and now i am still stuck with a lumpy ridgy area..... Just so frustrating.

I had a 'ridge that resembled a vein going from lumpectomy scar and down arm to my wrist. Surgeon referred me to physical therapy. Therapist says that it is axillary web syndrome or cording and slight lymphedema. I was given some exercises to do at home and scheduled for 6 therapy sessions. I'm going through chemo so mentally I can't do any additional appointments. I've had some relief doing exercise at home.
