Fasting to kill cancer?

Looks like there are studies out there talking about fasting as a trigger to help your body kill cancer cells... starving for 3 days before chemo weakens the cancer cells and could make chemo more effective... thoughts? Anyone tried this?

These concepts are fascinating. I do a nightly 13-14 hour fast between dinner and breakfast which has been known to have benefits. I tried a modified fast prior to chemo but am juggling a lot of balls right now with work and a young child and just couldn't realistically perform a true fast for a day or more. Also, when I tried to do a pre-chemo modified fast, I was also doing cold caps which was very difficult in and of itself. I was worried I didn't have the strength to deal with the fasting and the cold cap trauma. However, I know of others on these boards who have and there is much evidence about the success of this practice. If I could logistically do it, I would as I believe it is helpful.

Based on this, it would appear being on steroids (which elevates your glucose) because you have brain mets, is really bad. But I guess given the choice between going unconscious and letting the cancer grow, it's a tough call...

I do it. I have had great response and relatively few SEs. You can do 3 day fast or 5 day "fasting mimicking" diet (low cal, low protein). Search my other posts on this topic for more info-- or google Valter Longo USC who developed it.

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
