Tamoxifen caused very thick uterine lining

After 4 months on Tomaxifen I've got 17 mm lining up from 2mm before taking it. I've decided that my only choice is to get a hysterectomy as I need to get back on the medication.

I'm concerned about having future bladder problems that I guess would be called prolapse. What exactly does that mean? I understood from reading online that the bladder pushes through the vagina? But how can that be when it's sewn shut during the hysterectomy surgery? I'll be emailing my surgeon with this question and others but just wanted to get some information upfront if I can. Had a pre-op today but only with a student doctor, not sufficient. Thanks.

I was worried about that too before I had the surgery. My gyn said it happens in about ten percent of the cases. I had some issue with incontinence since the uterus was so enlarged. Happily the surgery improved that about 90%. I guess the uterus was so large it was crowding out other things. I had a total open hysterectomy. The surgery was so much easier than I ever thought it would b. Quite a lot of pain the first night, but fine after that. I should have done it ten years earlier. Best wishes.

Although my GYN recommended a hysterectomy for me, my urologist did not. I chose not to have the surgery. What that meant for me was D&C's & polyp removal about every 6-9 months during the 5 years I took Tamox. I was concerned about the incontinence possibility. I experienced some fairly minor but annoying incontinence when on Tamox. I certainly didn't want to make it worse. My incontinence went away completely when I stopped the drug at the 5 year mark.
