Pre-pectoral Implants: Contact sports after only 6 weeks

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to put this out there as a positive in all of this and to spread awareness -

I had a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction in mid September with PRE-PECTORAL implants (over the pectoral muscles) and after SIX WEEKS I returned to doing jiu jitsu and just the way I had been doing it beforehand. So training multiple times per week and also weight lifting twice per week. I have not had any compromise in strength (apart from some deconditioning from not exercising properly for the six weeks). My mobility/rangeof motion is also perfect. I developed cording about 3 weeks out from the mastectomy but I got rid of it in one week using yoga and lifting weights.

I just want to spread the word about pre-pectoral implants. I couldn't believe I could do my sport without any pain or damage to my chest/reconstruction after only six weeks. I wear a chest guard but that's the only difference. Jiu jitsu comprises judo, wrestling and a lot of being squished under people. Believe me it is tough on the chest.

So if it's possible, seek out a plastic surgeon who can do pre-pectoral!

I love reading success stories like this.

I had TEs placed under muscle in early September and exchange tentatively scheduled for mid December. I am so afraid that when I get back to the gym I am going to be disappointed with my sad chest muscles. I have not tried weight lifting again since I had my BMX.

Your experience is giving me more hope, so thank you for sharing :)

I have pre-pec implants and did not need to take a single opiate after my surgery. I think I took about four Tylenol and six Advil total during recovery. Very little pain involved. I also recommend this type of reconstruction, especially for people who need to get back in the game quickly.

I have pre pec TEs. I'm pretty sore right now...I just had surgery Tuesday, but the extra strength Tylenol has made it tolerable. I have oxycodone which might very well work better but I have to take three more pills when I take that to counter side effects so I'll save the oxy for later if I need it.
