Cobra or New Insurance?

Hope I can explain this so it makes sense:

I am scheduled for DIEP surgery on Nov29 and have met deductibles for this year.

On Monday this week my husband was let go from his job (long story!). The good news is he starts a new job this coming Monday, and benefits start on day 1.

My question is, do I pay COBRA and continue on with surgery as planned, or do I have to use insurance with new company? I would put off surgery for a while, but I've been in a lot of pain and have a lot of swelling since last surgery.

Any insight would be great. I'm sure there's a legal aspect to this and I have no clue how to proceed.
