Hello

I had my 2nd set of core biopsies this past Tuesday and the discomfort is really difficult! I'm thinking its more difficult this time because these biopsies are on the under side of my breast (@3 & 9 o'clock) and under my nipple. The Radiologist had a 'difficult' time going through my breast from 3 o'clock to the 9 o'clock spot. He made the comment of 'my you have dense breasts'. Trust me I felt the pressure of him trying to get that biopsy needle moving along his desired path. That alone could be my biggest source of discomfort. The 1st core biopsy was at 11 o'clock and wasn't too bad except for the itching from the steri-strips. And really seemed like a piece of cake.

This time is sooo uncomfortable. I had to apply a small gauze pad and some paper tape to my nipple because honestly it hurts. Last night I had a shower and the hot water felt sooo good. I spoke with my Nurse Advocate this morning and she seems to think everything is fine. I've been using ice and then either the heating pad or my hot water bottle per her suggestion.

I'm scheduled to see my Oncologist tomorrow and I know he's going to have a look see.

Has anyone had difficult or really uncomfortable biopsy sites besides me? Any suggestions? It is better than yesterday and I know tomorrow will be better but ladies...it hurts

update.... The oncologist wasn't sure what to make of my breast and thinks I have a slight infection. He's referring me to see the surgeon asap. The surgeon looked and said the discomfort I have going through is due to the steri-strips. Apparently I'm allergic to the adhesive and I have 2 huge blisters and another 1 forming and a slight infection going on too.

So I came home with antibiotics and a short dose of pain meds

Hope you feel better soon. I had a difficult biopsy similar to yours---I had it 3 days before my lumpectomy, and up until that time I was still in pain. I don't have any advice other than do what they say and follow up if it doesn't look better within their specified time frame. And try to get some rest since it sounds like your body is struggling to heal. Feel better!
