Hello all,

I just ordered the Color genomics - hereditary cancer test (30 genes tested including BRCA 1/2). It is discounted from $199 to $149 until Nov 12. For anyone that is interested.

Does anyone have experience with color genomics? I listened to the BreastCancer.org podcast on genetic testing and it appeared that color was the best one compared to 23andMe.

I was diagnosed with ALH 10/22 and have an excision biopsy on 11/29. Thought I would get this test because this whole health scare has WAKEN me up that I need to overhaul on my current lifestyle.

I want to be armed with information in case I get an upgraded diagnosis.

I used that test from Color Genomics when we were concerned about Lynch Syndrome (was having all sorts of “fun”colon issues). It was really simple, in terms of takin the sample and sending it back. When I did it, they even included a tracking number, so I could follow my sample and ensure it got back to the company. There is a bit of a lag in how quickly you may receive your results (I had to contact my ordering physician to have the results released a bit quicker)

My test came back perfectly normal with no genetic mutations, but I still appreciated the included phone appointment with a genetic counselor.

All in all, it was a good experience for a fraction of what a company like Myriad (with their MyRisk panel) was charging

Color Genomics is the test the Province of British Columbia uses (& pays for) if we qualify for hereditary cancer screening so I think that means it is a reputable evidence based test as they have to justify spending the public funds for it. I had it.

Color was recommended to my family by two different doctors in different states. They also do a discounted rate if a family member (1st degree) has a mutation found with them and stack the discounts. Fortunately they were not the several thousand dollars the lab my OBGYNs office uses would have charged even without the discounts. We have also identified with Colors help a chek2 mutation. This is allowing earlier monitoring and in the case of some of my cousins prophylactic treatment. I'm glad my mom's and cousins doctors recomended them.
