Hi everyone,

My mom has been on Ibrance and XGeva for over a year (bone mets), and recently she got a tooth removal. Unfortunately, she didn't stop taking XGeva and now may have ONJ, Osteonecrosis of the Jaw, (we're going to get it properly diagnosed next week). She had her last XGeva shot a week ago and she's now off XGeva. She has a lot of jaw pains and I'm trying my best to be strong. But seeing her in so much pain, it really eats me up inside.

To make matters worse, she also has been getting fever ~100.5F, three days in a row around the same time (in the late afternoon). This really really really worries me. We're going to our oncologist about this of course but if anyone has any insight to share on this, I would appreciate it so much. Thank you so much

Love,

Tina

Tina, I understand your concern. Does your mother have any swelling in the jaw or neck area? The fevers do suggest the possibility of infection. If there is any swelling, please get her to the doctor immediately. I have had ongoing problems with ONJ since 2015. Most of it was controlled by antibiotics. However, in August, 2015,while visiting my daughter in Seattle, I developed swelling, and just felt unwell with a low-grade fever. After hoping it would improve, we finally went to a walk-in clinic on a Sunday (duh!!!) After a 3-hour wait to be seen, I was sent to an emergency room, where I was immediately diagnosed with Ludwig's Angina (had never heard of it), then sent by ambulance to another hospital where I had surgery immediately, and remained in the hospital for 8 days. Recovered well, but it was frightening and painful. Not suggesting this is your mother's case, but do be aware of it, especially with the fevers.

Private message me, if you'd like.

Hoping for the best for you and your mother.

    Judy

Hi Tina - try not to diagnosis your mom before you have all the information. I know it's easy to do, but there could be many reasons for the fever and pain.

I had a tooth extracted and i did have a lot of pain afterwards which is normal - there is an injury to the jaw bone when a tooth is extracted and it can take several weeks to heal and feel normal again.

The fever may be due to something else entirely. It is good that you are taking your mom to see her MO and they will give a sound recommendation hopefully.

I can tell you that the first year I started treatments I seemed to have a lot of “flares" that included random fevers for several days. I now believe that they were healing responses to the medicine.

Good luck - sending your mom and you lots of positive thoughts!

Hi Judy and Brenda, Thank you for your responses. I really appreciate them.

I don't think there's any neck swelling. She took an extra dosage of antibiotics and the fever finally broke. She seems a lot better now in spirit at least. I think there's a lot of pain still. We're also seeing an oral surgeon to get it properly diagnosed too.

Thank you again for your feedback and care.
