Spine MRI shows spot... freaking out!

Options

hello everyone,

After having some pretty awful back pain the last few months (notably worse at night) I finally had a lumbar area MRI today to check for spine Mets.

I haven’t heard back from my Doctor yet but when i look at the scan images myself I can clearly see an oval shape dark lesion like spot in one of my vertebrae which looks to my eyes to be a close comparison to image searches of metastatic spinal lesions to me.

I know I’m going to have to wait on the actual report results until tomorrow to get a definitive answer. But meanwhile, can anyone help talk me off the ledge with a similar story that ended in the spot NOT being Mets? I have a 3 year old and I’m so distraught at the thought of not being around to raise her.

Thank you in advance for any responses you may be able to offer.

I had a spot seen in the CT scan but a clean bone scan. I think only a bone scan can definitely tell if it is metastasis.Based on my understanding, MRI, CT scan can only point out there are lessions, but cannot distinguish. In my case the spot was recorded as "possible a bone island". The same doctor read the bone scan, which was the then followed by CT scan, so he was aware of my clean bone scan.

Have you gotten results yet? Hoping it is benign. I would not try to interpret results based on google; too manu nuances.

The MRI can see lesions but a biopsy will be needed to determine metastasis. Try to breathe because other conditions may show up. The report will give a description of the spot and what itindicates. Hugs and peace tonight. Jo

    hi guys,

Just wanted to drop back to say thanks for the kind replies and pleased to report back that although I was right about the spot I saw being a lesion it’s actually a vertebral haemangioma... so a benign tumour....

hey I’ll take that over the alternative... much love and wishing for good results for all who stumble across this thread
