Role of Tamoxifen in Stage iii breast cancer.

Dear Members,

I would like to know the role of Tamoxifen in the treatment of breast cance at stage iii..

    Hi munyuoke, Its my understanding, basically if your tumor is what they call hormone positive, or E.R. and P.R. positive. That means they grow in response to estrogen or progesterone. Tamoxifen, for pre menopausal women blocks them from getting the effects of those hormones. For post menopausal women, Aromatase Inhibitor medications, are usually used for the same reason.

    hi there — I think calikelly explained it! I’m stage iii and I am supposed to take tamoxifen for ten years (tho I may switch to an aromatase inhibitor eventually).
