Hi all,

I was just diagnosed with IDC on 10/26 and I was able to get a surgery date for 11/12 for a double masectomy. However, when they were checking my vitals they discovered I had a heart murmer. I had an echocardiogram today and am waiting for the results. I'm so worried it will interfere with the surgery. Has this happened to anyone else?

I have a heart murmur since birth and it did not interfere with surgery or followup treatments. I was monitored a bit more closely, that's about all. Wishing you an easy procedure and recovery!

Thank you heart murmur club! I was so worried about being cleared for the surgery and they told me today that I am ok to have it. Such a relief. Thanks for your encouraging words!

Just adding my name to the heart murmur club. I've had it since childhood and every dr I've gone to has worried about it more than me until they determine that it's just a functional murmur—no valve leakage. I've gone through several operations and all the bc treatment (chemo bilateral mastectomy, radiation, diep flap recon), and have not had a problem. As long as your echocardiogram is good, you should do fine.
