Zoladex shot

Hi all,

I get a Zoladex shot in my stomach on a monthly basis. Usually my shots are painless without any bruising or side effects. However, my last shot was different and I feel like something is not right.

1. I usually don't feel the needle after numbing my stomach, but this last shot I did feel it

2. The nurse was surprised how much I was bleeding after the shot.

3. Exactly one week after my shot, a faint bruise forms around the area

4. I feel something hard under the bruised skin. Like a lump, but not round more like tubular shaped.

The nurse I had that day was horrible with needles. It was so painful when she took my blood. Since my blood wasn't flowing quickly, she kept moving the needle around and pushing the needle further into my skin. I have a scab in the spot she drew my blood. I also have a scab from the zoladex shot. Never had scabs before. She was behind on schedule and was probably rushing/stressed as a result. I just feel like something is wrong. Any idea why I would have bruising a week later and what the hardness under my skin could be?

I’ve been getting Zoladex shots for almost two years. Sometimes I end up with a horrible bruise — like I’ve been repeatedly punched in the stomach — and sometimes you can’t tell I’ve gotten a shot. I’ve ended up with a bruise even when I’ve had an experienced nurse who swears none of her patients ever end up with a bruise. You can usually tell it’ll bruise by the amount of bleeding. The needle just occasionally hits the wrong spot. (One nurse *did* put a cold compress on the area first and I ended up with no marks.)

But, yikes — that blood draw sounds awful. I’d try to avoid that nurse in the future.

All that said, I don’t think there’s anything to worry about. The bruising and lump will go away. You should definitely bring it up at your next shot, and have them do the injection on the opposite side for a couple months.
