Hi, I had a punch biopsy from my dermatologist and it came back positive for Paget's, referred me to an oncologist who referred me to a surgeon who ordered a mammogram and ultrasound which I did two days ago. The radiologist Dr said everything looked clear so no underlying cancer though he did say the surgeon may want to order an MRI as it is more sensitive. Any of you have just the nipple area Pagets and if so what did you end up having done? I meet with the surgeon on monday next week and want to be prepared. I have heard about focused radiation done at the time of surgery which I am interested in. And I have heard of laser surgery for removal of small areas as being less invasive. I have already decided I will not do reconstruction or chemo.

Can I ask what symptoms you had? I’m currently trying to get into a dermatologist for symptoms I feel may be pagets. I’m hoping that because my nipple doesn’t look that bad at all that hopefully if it is pagets that it will be very early. From what I’ve read, usually early on there is less likelihood of secondary cancer within the breast.

It started with intense itching and redness--when I was young I had a couple of yeast infections of my nipples while breastfeeding and that is what it felt like. It came and went for a long time--then i thought it might be eczema, but always on just one nipple and not the other which was suspicious as if it had been detergent or lotion reaction it seems it would have been both nipples. But then this summer the aerola started growing in a weird shape, staying red all the time and sometimes getting flaky and very sore--even bleeding at times. I urge you to go to a dermatologist and have it looked at because yes, most cancers are easier to deal with the earlier caught. I did have to have an MRI--have an other apt tomorrow with the surgeon about the results of that!
