Waiting on oncotype score after BMX

So I'm waiting on the oncotype score of my three small tumors. Being grade 1, stage 1, and hormone receptive, my BS thinks Chemo is unlikely but not out of the question. I just had a BMX with negative nodes. I have not seen an oncologist yet, waiting to have all the info. I guess im wondering, reoccurrence where? I have no breast tissue. Chest wall? Nodes? I just don't understand it fully, despite my research

Dovely, the Oncotype is mainly to see if you would benefit from chemo. Depending on your tumor biology, the risk of chemo may not outweigh the benefit. Are they oncotyping all 3 of your tumors? Recurrence can be local (in the breast) or distant (bones, lungs, liver, and brain). The Oncotype is predicting the benefit of chemo to prevent distant recurrence. This is my understanding, anyway. Other people may have more to add.

Hi, tissue is so fine there is no guarantee that every bit is gone. Plus a recurrence as stated above could happen along the mastectomy line, or distant. I liken it as dormant cells that if something awakens them it depends where they go. Sounds like you have a very good chance of it coming back without needing chemo.

My sister’s came back after 4 years along the MX scar so obviously it can happen. There are no guarantees. The first time she didn’t have chemo or radiation. This time she had radiation and has shots every month.

Hi Dovely, just to share, when my Oncotype came back 12 which is on the low side of the scale, I didn't do Chemo but insisted on Radiation because I didn't want to do nothing. And my DCIS was scattered across the breast. The radiation was after BMX with direct to implant. Hoping I lowered risk of it coming back along the mastectomy scar. I guess we can only try our best.

    All the best!

Hi polyone, Hope you are recovering well and your oncotype results were good. Surgery yesterday went well, implants put in (had two week delay, expected DTI). Pretty uncomfortable at this point but it's manageable. I'm supposed to meet with my Oncologist on 11/20

Hi dovely, glad your second surgery went well. I can't imagine having to go back so soon. If I had it to do over, I would have taken way more pain meds in the beginning. I'm eperiencing pretty constant low level oain, and finding it exhausting My oncotyoe result was 15. I'm not sure what that means but the nurse told me it was good and I won't need chemo. After trying to work four hours on Tuesday from home I realized the pain and fatigue mean I'm a ways away from returning to work so am planning to be out through the end of next week. Sending you a big soft air hug.

Pollyone, well that's good news about the Oncotype. Yeah... I don't react well to opioids so I try to be minimal with them but in this case I'm just going for it because this hurts. I do have anti nausea meds that help. I feel ok when I'm still, I just have to have my husband do everything for me because it hurts to use my upper body at all. I hope your constant pain resolvessoon, that is exhausting. Air hug to you back! Take care
