Joint and muscle pain with lupron and arimidex
Hello everyone. I'm 49 and a 2 year survivor. I've been taking Arimidex and Lupron for 1 year now and have suffered lots of joint pain in both knees as well muscle aches in my hips, legs and back. I started taking these 2 meds at the same time. I can't tell which one gave me these side effects. My MO gave me the impression that it's from the Lupron. He said I should see an OB/GYN and discuss about having oophorectomy since Lupron can cause osteoporosis. My OB/GYN recommended to have my ovaries removed, so I don't have to be on Lupron, but I should still continue taking Arimidex. My BRCA gene is negative. I don't know if this is the right decision. I read from these sites that some women experienced joint pain from Arimidex. So eliminating Lupron may not help me with the pain, and having ovaries removed also raise osteoporosis risk. My second opinion MO said that I should try different Ai, stay on Lupron till I became menopause and no need for oophorectomy. Please help me out with your input. Greatly appreciated.

Bumping for sandy -- can anyone help?

Sandy, hi, I don't take Lupron, but I've been taking anastrazole (Arimidex) for a couple of years. I did have a lot of joint and muscle pain at first, but it's considerably less now. Really hated it at first, hot flashes ,night sweats, aching body, but I guess my body got adjusted to it. Still random aches and pains, but heat waves practically gone.

Hi CaliKelly,
Thanks for sharing your story. For me, the longer I 've been on these meds, the more pain I got. It seems like the doses are accumulating. I'm glad that your body got used to it. Take care.
Sandy.

lupron made me feel 100 years old. I felt so much better when I stopped it. My bet is on the lupron as the culprit. Hugs...

Hi Sandy,
We're in the same boat. I started both Lupron and arimidex in June and the muscle and joint pain started almost immediately especially in my right knee. It doesn't take much to have it swell up whether it's driving or walking a little more than usual . I also don't know which one of the meds is causing the discomfort but my instinct is telling me it's the lupron. I've opted to have my ovaries removed on Dec 5 and I really hope it makes a difference. I'm also hoping that by removing the source of estrogen, the big C stays forever gone. Good luck to you and God bless.
