Yesterday my mom took 1 session. it was deep breath tec. she felt fatige afterwards with more pain underarm howver the radiation was on breast only as she is stage 1 no lymp nodes taken.

they did not give any cream and said no need to use any cream at all just take pain killers.

the sechdule is 15 session ( 4 times a week) ! which is strange why not 5 times a week. Is there any problem if a paitent cut or had irregular appointments such as one session morning then other day evening!

Hi there. On the creams, many doctors seem to be "old fashioned" and don't recommend creams; they are concerned that the creams themselves may cause an allergic reaction. They are wrong! There is good scientific evidence that a calendula based cream can prevent and treat radiation "burns." You can order it through Amazon.

But I don't know why they would do four days a week instead of five. Personally I think either approach is fine clinically. And while they try to schedule at the same time every day, that doesn't affect treatment results either. Best of luck!

agree with Georgia-using a cream will help minimize the effects of radiation burn. While you are waiting for the calendula cream to arrive (I never found it locally, so had to buy it from the internet), your mom should use a pure aloe vera gel. That’s what was recommended to me

Because radiologist staff don’t want creams or lotions to interfere with the treatment, I suggest she apply it right after her treatment, and again well before the next treatment. I put mine on at night, took a shower before I went to my treatment. I had minimal “burn” until just before my treatments ended.

Better to use it than deal with damaged skin afterwards in my opinion.

Do you think no creams because it's only 15 sessions? My skin damage didn't show up until a few weeks into my 6 week run of radiation. I don't know, just speculating. Maybe have your mom ask her radiation oncologist what the thought process is.

I'm sure the 4 day a week thing is whatever protocol they are using. Out of 6 weeks I had two that were 4 treatment weeks, because I did radiation over the holidays and I think one Friday their machine was broken. Gotta do what you have to do...
