Thickening in Breast

Hello All!

Hoping for some clarity, I am 55 years old, on HRT for last 3 years otherwise healthy and active. I noticed a thickening at the 12 o clock position, this area is not at all sensitive, more like numb however where the thickening 'ends' it is very painful, but not so bad that I need pain meds. Often there is a burning sensation deep within my armpit. I have also felt stinging like a insect bite type sting on the side of my breast where the thickening ends. There is no discoloration of the skin, nipple is also a bit slow to become erect. Has anyone had anything similar happen to them. I do have very dense breasts.

Sue

    Hi B-S-F,

Time to get your breast checked out methinks.

Start with your G.P (M.D.)and go from there. Best of luck with investigating. Could be nothing or something...best to sort it out. :)

    Hello Astrid

I have an appointment with my Dr next week [only day off - I work as a chef] - my mammo is due in January 2019. Unfortunately the medical scheme I am on will only allow a mammo every 2 years! Otherwise you have to pay for it yourself. Last mammo I had was BIRADS 3 but there was no thickening etc when I had it done. US is only done if there are suspicious findings.

I did have an excisional biopsy done in 2011 due to a huge dent and lump - that came back b9. {not the same breast} .

Thank you for taking the time to respond.

    Sue

You will be going for a diagnostic (not screening) mammogram, so it probably wouldn't fall into that "free" category anyway.

mmm....let's see what you doc thinks....you see lobular cancer can be like a thickening instead of a lump. The burning sensation I am unfamiliar with, but everything points towards getting this looked at. Hopefully your doc can figure out how to order investigations so you won't be (too much) out of pocket.
