Does anyone travel far for their surgery?

Hi. Have ILC and am trying to pick a team. I live in CT. A surgeon friend in Boston strongly recommended his wife's team. We met them and loved them. But is it crazy to travel three hours each way for surgery and follow-ups? Has anyone done this and was glad - or regretted it?

Thank you!!!

I'm travelling 2 1\2 hours for surgery. it will be complicated for the whole family, with little kids needing care and nobody else than me an my DH to take care of them. I guess I will have to go alone.

I don't think it's crazy. It's short term inconvenience but you'll live with the results the rest of your life.

I did surgery locally but just transplanted 1000 miles for six weeks to do radiation for no other reason than because I liked this doctor better.

I flew from NC to NOLA for my bmx and DIEP recon, so no its not crazy. Its not just about liking your team, but liking their previous work. They can be all warm and fuzzy but have crappy work comparatively and ones that have 0 bedside manner can have the best work on the planet, so make sure you've seen the before and afters from that surgeon. I'm amazed on this site how many women have followups for years with their surgeons...seems like a bunch of extra copays and time off work when you're already seeing your GYN and MO. Check to see if you really need to do years of followups with the surgeon. If you are happy with what you see in the before and afters and would be happy to have those results for yourself (not just happy considering you're getting a mx and it could be worse), then go for it.
