low back pain when lying down

Options

Thank God there are these forums. I'm very worried, I've been suffering for several weeks with a pain in my lower back that only happens when I'm lying on my back and I try to stand up. If I lie on the left or right side, the pain decreases. At first I thought it was a side effect of Letrozole, as I read that it causes pain in joints, including the back. However, I have also read that it may be a symptom of metastatic cancer in the spine, which may originate from another cancer, such as breast cancer, I had breast cancer in the left breast. I received chemotherapy, radiotherapy, herceptin, tamoxifen and now letrozole. The problem is that I am on a work trip to Europe and I can not see my oncologist until I return. To feel calmer, I would like to know if someone else has happened. I also want to mention that in addition to the back pain I have had intestinal colic, and changes in my bowel movements. I do not know if this is related. I appreciate a lot of information and opinions about it. Thank you so much, God bless you.

Bless your heart I know you are worried and it doesn’t help you can’t find out the cause ASAP.

I’m not a doctor and only he/she can DX your condition but I can’t imagine the intestinal colic and bowel moments aren’t all connected with your lower back pain.

It’s natural to think it’s ametastasis. I think we all do that at some time or another. Unfortunately when you are DX with BC the fear factor is there alive and well. The thing is you will make yourself crazy imaging the worst. Believe me I’m the poster child for worrying even when I don’t have to but I’ve calmed down a bit over time and with meds.

Surfing the internet provides possible causes but that doesn’t mean that’s your case. My GP told me I was doing too much of that and scaring myself as a result. It’s a research tool only.

Try and stay busy - I’m sure you are - until you can get in to see a doctor and meanwhile try and keep the faith and not assume the worst.

    Keep us posted.

    Diane

sorry you're not home to see your doctor. Your symptoms mirror mine. Mine was metastatic to the sacrum. Because of the location it will affect bowel and bladder. Hope you come home soon. Take care. J

I am also experiencing some lower back pain but have been brushing it off since I recently started a new exercise routine. They did do a complete body "scan" checking the bones once my treatment was completed and I was in pain back then as well. They found nothing. The Letrozol treatment was the cause of my "bone pain" then so now I am telling myself to wait until I am in total pain and not freak out. However not sure what the pain is suppose to feel like really. That is hard. How and when are you suppose to be alarmed? A friend of mine passed away recently in another type of cancer and it has made me freak out about everything once again...:( Keep us posted how it goes!
