Calcification after radiation Dr wants biopsy

Options

Hi, I am having a biopsy tomorrow. This is something I prayed I would never have to do again. I just finished radiation 3/27/18. Diagnosed with IDC right breast 12/12/17. My 6 month mammogram shows calcifications. After 2 hour diagnostic mammo radiologist recommended this biopsy. Oncologist says 2% chance of reoccurance after just finishing 32 radiations 6 months ago. I don't have a good feeling. Same breast very close to same spot. Anyone have this kind of experience. Thanks

Hello, Always. I am sorry to hear of your upcoming biopsy. I didn't have quite the same experience as you, but this past March when I went in for my screening mammogram at 20 months after my original diagnosis, they found new calcifications that had not been there when I had my MRI in September (nor were they there in a mammo I had done in July.) Because there were so small and so many there was no way for them to decide which of these to biopsy and the radiologist thought they were probably from the trauma of surgery and/or radiation and unlikely to be cancer. So, it was decided to wait six months and do a diagnostic mammo and my annual MRI the following September.

It was like waiting for the results of your biopsy for six months. Fortunately, in September they found the calcifications to be stable and no evidence of cancer. I will go back to a screening mammogram in March. I know I will still be very nervous when March rolls around.

I hope your biopsy comes back negative for cancer and you get peace of mind. You are in my thought and prayers.

    Sending gentle hugs your way.

I am in almost the same position. Calcifications found during my 1 year mammogram. Approximately 9 months post radiation. I'm scared. How did your biopsy turn out? I pray you received good news.

Thank you for your input. My biopsy was NEGATIVE. Pray you have the same results.

Almost 4 years out and mammogram shows calcifications outside the original area. MRI 5 months earlier shows nothing. Radiologist believes benign. MO wants biopsy. My radiated breasts still hurts when touched. Concerned stereotactic biopsy will be painful.
