Hi,

I am new to this forum. The last week has been especially tough I am regretting my decision to go ahead with breast reconstruction and wanted to know if anyone has experienced that.

I have been through chemo, had a mastectomy on the right side w axillary lymph node removal. 1 out of 13 nodes were found positive hence the docs have recommended radiation to prevent recurrence. But I already have my tissue expander in and was planning to proceed with reconstruction using implants -- no fills done yet.

I have read that radiation and TE and or implants are not a good combo. I read about Contracture Capsulation ? And just thinking ahead, should the cancer reoccur -- having implants would be in the way.

I will be meeting with a radiation oncologist this week, to see what my options are.

I am planning to ask my PS to see if the TE can be removed, and will there be any bad effects if the TE is removed - b/c I am really not comfortable now with the reconstruction option, given this whole recurrence and radiation factor. I am absolutely okay with going back on my earlier decision and going for prosthetics.

Have anyone seen in a situation like mine ?

Thanks,

Bab
