1st 3d mammogram after 7 years no mammogram
got called back after 1st 3d mammogram after 7 years without mammogram. Call back is due to dense breast tissue with asymmetry. History of dcis in left breast 14 years ago with full mastectomy - 2 years of reconstruction due to skin loss and necrosis of tram. Call back is for right breast and I am scared!

Hope everything turns out ok. Are you going to have ultrasound?
-
Hi Avoider, Oh goodness, so, you have a little Breast Cancer history. And, having the Dense Tissue can make you a little nervous. Just try to relax. You be fine. Having Dense Breasts sometimes are hard to detect Cancer in a Mammogram. If need be, after you get a call back maybe schedule for an US or even MRI. Breast Cancer is easier to detect with US and definitely with a MRI. In the meantime, I know it is hard, but, try to keep positive minded and just relax. I think you are all good. Let us all know of the results. We are with you here. Good Luck and Blessings!

Avoider - I echo the point about having a follow up MRI if you have dense breast tissue. That is the only way mine was found. And you will be able to breathe easier knowing definitively that you are clear. Best to you.

Hi Avoider, Yes, listen to Rah2464. A MRI is the best way to go since you have the Dense Tissue. MRI's pickup everything deep down in the Breast Tissue. Talk to your Doctor on this. Get Rest honey! Blessings!

Are MRI's better than 3D mammograms?
-
MRIs are not the same as mammograms. Each type of test has its own purpose. In my case I need both due to extreme density. The 3d mammograms are suppose to be better for dense tissue than previous mammography.
Mris are notorious for false positives and are not routinely given. Had I not had BC and extremely dense tissue I probably won't be getting routine MRIs.

I had an ultrasound to look more closely at a suspicious lymph node in center of right breast. Radiologist spent a lot of time analyzing and explaining his thoughts on it. It looked like the right shape but center was not as well defined as he would like. With no ultrasound to compare to, he suggested repeat US in 6 months to see if any changes. Could have pushed for biopsy but being the Avoider I am, would rather wait and see. Thoughts, anyone?

Hi honey, Oh gosh. Well, Avoider if I were you, I would try to push up the US if you can. Maybe 2-3 months. It would not hurt. He sounds to be pretty knowledgable as to his findings. Just spending the time and being thorough with what he was looking at. Other, than that, just go with his word on this and just wait. You will be fine. Try not to worry so much on it. Just keep positive thru this, and, things will roll quickly and smoothly. One thing at a time. One day at a time. Believe me, BC teaches us Patience. ha. Keep us updated. And, Blessings honey.
