Post mastectomy undergarments????

Options

I had a bi-lateral mastectomy 2-1/2 weeks ago and have decided against reconstruction... I cannot find any information on what type of undergarment to wear (bra, cami, etc.).  My doctor is going to fit me for a prothesis, but I don't know if I that's for me.  I've tried researching what options I have for undergarments, but have found very little info.  Can anyone help me?  I'm 57 and work in a business environment, and want to know what I can wear under my shirts.  Can anyone help?

Hi Gerri, I had a BMX without reconstruction in August. I also haven't decided about wearing prosthetics, but the hospital gave me a couple of fibre filled “fakes” so I just picked up a cheap sports bra with removable foam pads at Walmart and stuffed the forms inside. Figured I would try that out and see how I liked it before committing to expensive breast forms and mastectomy bras. So far I have just gone flat and feel quite comfortable.

I find that scarves and vests make me feel less obviously flat. If I was still working I would probably just wear a stretchy camisole under my shirts, with a jacket or scarf over. Hope this helps

Nordstrom has an amazing breast cancer support staff in their bra department. I am not an employee btw. You call and make an appointment. I was amazed at how informed they were about bra needs (more helpful than my first crummy PS). I got reconstruction so have gone there at all the different stages but the initial sweet little bralettes and camis they had made me feel better right from the start.

Honestly, you don't need to wear anything under a shirt if you are going to go flat. If you don't feel comfortable that way, you can always wear a camisole.

There is no right or wrong way, just what makes you comfortable.

I have worn the traditional foam or silicone forms under a mastectomy bra, foam form in a Coobie bra, Knitted knockers in a mastectomy or Coobie bra, a tank top or camisole under a blouse, or nothing underneath at all. Post mastectomy, I used the camisole with the fluff poofs that they gave to me for a while, but I found it hot since I was menopausal from getting an oopherectomy.

Comfort has always been my main goal, but I am not a girlie girl. I don't wear makeup or skirts very often.

Knitted knockers is an organization that gives away Knitted breast forms filled with Polyfil, and they with send them to you free if you request them. Knittedknockers.org is the site.

I like the Coobie bras because they are comfortable, https://shopcoobie.com/
