No Lump node involved but no clear margin. Radiation or not?

Hello, I am just checking if anyone has same result. I was diagnosed with stage2, grade 2 ER+/PR+/HER2 IDC. I had surgery last Thrusday. They only took one lump node out and it is negative but the pathology report states no clear margin either. The surgeon would not suggest radiation but she said she will talk to oncology if she agreed.

I am just wonder if anyone has same result and do you need to do radiation.

I am still waiting for my oncotype test result.

Thanks.

    hello,

Did you have lumpectomy or mastectomy? If lumpectomy, the surgeon can go back to try to achieve a clear margin. In my case, I had a lumpectomy that came back with clear margin on the invasive cancer but I had extensive DCIS and many unclear margins from that.

Because of the extent and location of the DCIS I had a mastectomy and no radiation. I believe most would recommend radiation with unclear margins.

I ended up with a lumpectomy, clean margins and no node involvement, but I told my surgeon to go ahead with a mastectomy if I didn't have clean margins or nodes. I didn't know what I had done until in recovery. I really wouldn't want another lumpectomy later. Just my personal druthers
