anyone here whose tumor was deep close to the chest wall? Did you go through a lumpectomy or mastectomy?

Mines under 2cm, at a 1oclock position, 6cm deep and close to my pectorial muscle and away from my nipple - area with least fat..

Scheduled for a lumpectomy next Tuesday and starting to get worried because of how deep it is. Just looking for support that even if its deep its manageable. I'm really praying that there arent any stray cells close to my muscle or chest wall and the dr gets clean margins

Hi Raysal, have you raised your concern to your surgeon? My tumor had always been attached to my chest wall. It was not movable. It sat between 9 and 10 o'clock position, close to the edge of right breast. My surgeon had a look and decided that I should do chemo first. At the end of chemo, the tumor felt a bit smaller but still firmly attached to chest wall. My post surgery pathology report is a mess. I didn't achieve clear margin. My surgeon took as much chest wall muscle as he could. He said further surgery would not help achieve clear margin. Hence I had more chemo Xeloda post surgery. My doctors never talk about my prognosis with me and I never ask about that either. On my latest separate check up with my surgeon and MO, my surgeon talked about preventing metastasis and my MO let his tongue slip telling me " you have bad cancer." Lol! Thanks for telling me that. I am aware that a few stage III members here didn't have clear margin and remain well so far about ten years after treatment. I am doing well and don't feel sick. One day at a time! You are not alone in this lonely journey. Keep us posted please.

    hey beauz

Thanks for your reply. That sucks beauz but I'm glad you're keeping well.

It was my surgeon that was concerned, made me do MRI and CT scan to be sure before scheduling surgery.. I was in a rush for surgery and she refused wanting to check the full picture before going in. MRI showed the lump a bit smaller than US and showed there was margin between the muscle and lump so they scheduled surgery for next week.
