Lump in armpit

Options

I was taking a shower tonight and found a pea sized hard lump in my armpit. It is on the "good side" so I do not know what to think. I had no cancer in my lymph nodes 31/2 years ago when I had my bilateral mastectomy. I can't tell if it hurts or not because I have no feeling in my armpit. It is red. I'm going to call my oncologist tomorrow. I feel foolish for calling him if it's just a cyst or something, but I need to know. I hate this stupid disease. You get to where you can breathe and then suddenly there is another scare and maybe even cancer. I don't know what to think right now. Anyone had a lump that wasn't cancer? What was it?

Never feel foolish for calling. Any new lump needs to be assessed. Hoping it is benign!!!

He ordered an ultrasound today. He had me go straight to the hospital to get it and ordered the results STAT. He should have them now. The lump is 9mm. I'm waiting for him to call. Hoping for today but not counting on it.

Still haven't heard anything. They told me to call tomorrow if I don't hear sooner.

Justamy,I felt a lump in my armpit, good side, also while in shower. Kind of flat jelly bean, moveable, i knew it was a lymph node, but why could i all of a sudden feel it? Couldnt before, and i check! Ultrasound showed normal lymph node, no one seems to know why its palpable. Not painful or red. Still there, 2 months later

    Hoping for a good result.

The waiting is (one of) the hardest parts.

So I got the results of my ultrasound and it showed a "complex lesion." They concluded that is was a swollen lymph node but couldn't be definitive that it was not cancer. Not much help there. Tuesday, the MO referred me to a surgeon to remove the lymph node. I had that consult today. In the meantime the lump had gotten smaller. The surgeon could barely feel it. Tomorrow, I have another ultrasound and they are going to give from there. I'm hopeful since it is going down but not sure what's going on yet. Cancer sucks. At any moment your life could be upended. You can never fully relax.

Definitely did the right thing! I've had 4 Ultrasounds in a year and a half for "lumps" Resulting in: Normal lymph node, complex cysts, or fat necrosis, and surgical clips, and sutures! I don't like to " monitor " lumps! I want to know what the heck I'm feeling.

Glad to hear it is getting smaller. Lymph nodes can swell for things as simple as an ingrown hair. Hoping it is just a pesky reactive node doing it job.

Hello, I was looking for a post similar to what I'm going through and hope you don't mind if I join in. I had a biopsy today for a lump I found in my right axilla 3 weeks ago. I went in for ultrasound and was told I needed a biopsy now. I'm in shock because it feels like deja vu. Last year I was diagnosed with idc and underwent right lumpectomy, chemo and radiation, finishing in May 2018. I've been on anastrozole since June. With all that treatment how could I possibly get cancer again on the same side so soon? I'll get results of biopsy tomorrow, just needed to vent, thanks for listening!

    Hi Garifalia,

The waiting is so terrible. Hopefully it's benign!

Great news- it was an abnormal lymph node but no cancer cells were found. I still have to go back for a follow up ultrasound in 6 months.
