Extensive Bruising after lumpectomy

It has been 16 days since my lumpectomy. For about a week I had a huge black and red hematoma, which the doctor had me treat with cold and hot compresses. That has mostly disappeared, with just a small red band at the very bottom of the breast. Though the vividness of the color has disappeared, and what remains is mostly beige/darker brown, it is much more extensive that the original hematoma. is it normal for the bruising to expand in area, while it fades? Also, the top of my breast, where the lumpectomy was done, is considerably harder than the rest of the breast, especially where the incision scar is, but also beyond that area. The incision has healed beautifully. Do I need to worry about this very extensive bruising and hardness? I am still treating with heat.

Yes, I think it's normal for bruises to expand as they heal...that sounds right but check with your doctor if you are worried. My bruises kind of sank to the bottom of my breast over time and took a long long long time to go away. I also had a large hematoma. We go through so much right?!

I still have hard scar tissue around my lumpectomy scar...it's been almost exactly two years.

I just developed a hematoma from exchange surgery. And yes the bruising spreads out as it fades into brown and greenish yellow family I believe. I see my PS tomorrow for more updates.

I was not told to treat with heat but to stay away from ibuprofen and I’m on an antibiotic. As far as the hardening I don’t have any of that I notice. The incision site is not where my hematoma developed from though from my understanding.

Mine was super painful when it appeared and the pain has subsided significantly!!

    Scary hematoma.
