On my post-treatment Tamoxifen regimen and have just completed a job transfer to Canada (Toronto area) from USA. Did just receive my OHIP card (and have supplemental insurance through work), but so far no family physician. Most are not accepting patients and my job takes so much time I have not had proper opportunity to look.

I will need to find a doctor to refer me for ongoing cancer monitoring and care, I realize that. Immediate problem is my current supply of Tamoxifen runs out in 4 days. Where can I go for a prescription in that length of time. I get more nervous by the day.

Please help!

Hi there. Can you perhaps have a friend in your old hometown pick up a refill of your old prescription and mail it to you? The good news is that a few days or weeks off Tamoxifen will do you no harm; I started in January, took a break April to June to figure out a possible tinnitus side effect, and my MO was good with it.

Hoping a Canadian will see this and have a suggestion...

Back in the old days Canadian pharmacies accepted Rxs from US doctors. Talk to your pharmacist. If that isn't possible, perhaps the pharmacist could suggest something?

Go to a walk in clinic and explain your situation to a doctor. I’m positive they can write you a refill prescription and possibly refer you for further care through a hospital breast clinic. You’re not looking for narcotics and your meds are for cancer prevention...shouldn’t be a problem. If you have repeats left Shoppers Drug Mart will call your previous pharmacy and get your script transferred (I did this two weeks ago when I ran out). What part of the city are you in?
