feeling a little tired
Hello everybody. I hope all is great. I done my third round of chemo September 25 and I have one more to go. I cant hardly feel my tumor, my potassium was low and the nurse gave me three huge potassium pills alone with two other pills to prevent nausea about five minutes later I could hardly keep my eyes open I got so sleepy.
I slept all through my chemo and all the way home and I climb in the bed and slept all night lone. Now foods do not taste right, everything taste bad and the same, it's about to run me crazy, can anybody give me some advice about how to get my taste bud back? its a nasty taste that be on my tongue.
I been suffering some depression and withdraw not having anyone at home to talk to and going through everything alone, I am going to find me apartment as soon as I can I feel I need to be in a peaceful and quiet place and take care of me. I meet peoples in the clinic that I love to talk to and I want to thank all of you at BCO for all your support and advice you all have given me. I do not know what I will do without you all

Hi elisa60:
I'm glad you are almost done with chemo.
As far as taste changes, a lot of mine were actually due to the anti nausea meds, particularly Aloxi and to a lesser extent, Zofran, which leftva bad sweet taste in my mouth and made water taste particularly bad. I drank lime flavored La Croix because the bitterness of it countered the sweet taste and result was fairly normal tasting carbonated water.
By day 9 or 10 of my cycle, the bad sweet taste is gone but my sense of taste is altered from the chemotherapy itself. Basically I've lost much of my ability to taste a number of flavors and this in itself makes things taste bad. During this time, if I don't have any issues with acid reflux, mouth sores or irritation, then I find that citrus and things marinated with vinegar taste good to me...basically sour and tart things. Sweet things also taste good to me. Meaty things, on the other hand, taste particularly bad to me during this time.

elisa60, good to see you posting. I know exactly what you mean about the taste buds. Most foods and drinks didn't taste right to me for all the 12 weeks of taxol and for a couple of weeks after. Normally, I love bread! Really love it but it tasted horrible to me during chemo. The only thing that tasted normal to me was McD fish sandwiches, ha ha. I don't know why. I also ate maple and brown sugar instant oatmeal and that tasted okay. I drank water because I needed lots of it but it didn't taste exactly right. Ginger ale tasted okay. Applesauce was okay. Chocolate milk shakes- yes if they were very chocolatey. Also, I could not eat very much at a time, sometimes just a few spoons full. Anyway, my taste buds recovered in a couple of weeks after the last chemo and food started tasting good again and I can eat normal portions again. So glad you are getting close to the end of chemo! It's perfectly normal to feel down and also to feel tired. Gradually you will start to feel better after the last treatment.
