Has anyone been approved for Long Term Disability?
Just wondering if anyone has ever been approved for Long Term Disability, following 6 months of short term disability. I'm Stage 4, Mets to bones, and back on Taxol again for the next 12 weeks. This is my third time on Taxol in 6 years, and it is wearing me out. My oncologist said he could put me on disability while on Taxol, but then would have to return to work. I've worked reduced hours during the previous times on chemo, but I'm already feeling terrible and contemplating going out rather than working this time.

mic, this breaks my heart and makes me angry that you even need to be concerned with returning to work after all you have been through. I'm so so sorry.
Would your short term carry you through taxol or will it flip over at some point to long term during the 12 weeks? Regardless, I'm assuming it's a benefit you have paid in to.....and you should be able to use it. I've heard of situations where after STD and LTD kicks in people work here and there and balance the rest with LD disability pay. You deserve and need to take care of yourself. You don't need this stress. Please take care . (Hug)

With stage IV, it's automatic that you can get SS disability, but you might not be able to work either. As it is sort of based on income. And I believe they do retro active as well. I think it takes a few weeks before everything goes through. Go to your local SS office and start the process. You can always refuse it if you don't like what you are going to get. I get a whopping $1000 a month.

I am on it and I can make an extra thousand a month.

I'm exploring my disability options again. When I had a recurrence and Mets diagnosis in 2016 I tried applying for LTD and was denied. The LTD carrier's opinion was that I had good response to Taxol, tumors were shrinking and I was not disabled from an office/administrative job. So how did you get approved for LTD, how did your doctors describe your impairment? For me it's fatigue, mental foginess and loss of use of my right arm due to scar tissue/nerve damage from tumor and radiation. This is the 3rd time I'm on Taxol, and I'm feeling very worn out.

stage IV gets its...no questions asked. Doc just had to sign.
Sorry you are having problems. We pay intomit....we should be able to use it.
I have heard that with pursuit and lawyers, you usually get it. It will just cost you up front. I didn't have to get lawyers involved since I was stage IV
Good lick

I see you are stage IV also. Doesn't make sense. I looked into it, and one of the "top ten" don't remember exact, was our situation. So I started the process myself, just for the heck of it, no lawyers. Filled out all,the paper work....within 6-8 months, I had a check cut to me. Couldn't have been easier. And we are talking about the government right...lol. PM me if you wan

Lawyers are always hyping on infomercials that they guarantee you will get approved if you hire them. I’m sure that’s not cheap.
Congrats Susan for winging on your own. You go girl!

@mic96: Yes, I was on STD & LTD 3 different times in 3 years following my treatments. After being diagnosed with LE from head to toe, I finally applied for permanent disability & was approved. My sister is in the same process. These Oncologists & PCPs. Do NOT have a clue as to the long term debilitating side effects of Taxol on our bodies! They have no clue about the excruciating chronic bone pain Taxol causes! Keep fighting for your body. More survivors need to speak up & complain about their symptoms.

Edwards: to get a lawyer to do a Disability claim isn't expensive. IF they are willing to help out with applying and getting SS (either Short term or Long term) they agree to accept what SSI pays them. There is a government 'cap' (it's around 15% I believe) on the amount they are allowed to charge/collect once the SSI is approved. The government pays them out of the total settlement so there's no worries about 'us' having to pay them.

I am on LTD due to combined side effects of surgery, AIs and chemo. Had a lawyer, they got the % from the back pay lump sum, I only had to pay whatever medical offices charged for records copies, after I got approved.
