I’m having sentinel nodes removed tomorrow. I neglected to as my Oncology surgeon why she is doing this procedure when it could be done during the bilateral mastectomy. Anyone have any answers. I will ask tomorrow before surgery. Two surgeries just seems too much.

I asked today. It’s to help with nipple sparing during mastectomy. They will still test tissue under nipple during mastectomy, but this helps with diagnosis.

Yeah - I think it depends on where you are treated and your specific circumstances.

There was some question about my lymph nodes when first diagnosed - looked suspicious on US but biopsy was negative (discordant). Since I was going to get chemo anyway (HER2+), my MO just had me start the chemo without the SNB. My BS (at a bigger institution) said that they would have wanted that info for better staging before chemo.

Mine was done at the time of the BMX after chemo. And negative at that time.
