edited September 2018 in Waiting for Test Results

By crazy chance around 2 weeks ago I thought I felt a lump. Just so happened that I mentioned it to a nurse friend and she let me know that a local hospital was doing free Koman mammograms. So I signed up. To be honest, I expected it to be absolutely nothing. But I got called back and two days after my original mammogram, birads 0 at this point, did spot compression and an ultrasound. The tech told me she would be in to give me my results and to give her about 5 minutes. Not much more than 5 minutes later, she came in and told me that radiologist actually had time to speak to me. So of course I was on high alert because I know radiologists are super busy. This is when he tells me that he has some concerns. My report indicates birads 4 (no subcategory specified). Lobulated, hypoechoic, some blood flow, irregular, shadowing etc. I had my vacuum assisted core biopsy this morning. Of course I got to watch the whole thing and he explained some of the features. There are some angular features, and it’s lobulated like crazy. I wasn’t sure if taller than wide because I don’t understand all the angles us uses but the view I was seeing looked taller. He gave me a 50/50 chance on how the results would come back. There are other lesions within but this is the most worrisome one for now.

Anyway, for anyone that is scared to death about this particular biopsy, I’m still numb right now so I can’t say how it will eventually feel, but the procedure wasn’t bad at all for me. I had myself worked up for nothing! Now the true wait begins. I know the mass doesn’t look good at all, but I also know it can still be benign. I’m holding on to that hope, no matter percentages. And if it is indeed malignant, I’m as prepared as I can be for now.
