Hello Everyone. A few months ago I had a biopsy for a finding in my left breast. It turned out to be benign (fibrotic cyst).

I am wondering if anyone can tell me what the normal follow-up protocol is? I was told a 6 month diagnostic mammo and ultrasound. Is a diagnostic mammo necessary for a benign finding follow up?

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!!

Sometimes my 6 month follow ups require a repeat mammo and US, and some only require an US. I am not sure why the difference?

I think every office is a little different with this. I too was diagnosed with a few cysts not long ago. All benign, they said there was nothing to worry about but I have a follow up US in 6 months.

Thank you both for your feedback. I think my follow up is a 6 month ultrasound but I am due for my mammogram and they made it diagnostic. Not sure why they made it diagnostic. It is what it is. I will just get both done. Fun being a woman.
