Surgery for Underarm Lymph Node Recurrence

Hello,

I am new to this board but have been posting on this site for some time. I’m wondering if anyone else has had surgery for this type of recurrence.

I had a mastectomy with node removal two years ago, and now my cancer is back. It’s already 6 cm and hitting the nerves of my shoulder and arm. The doc wants to do surgery, but it will cause permanent nerve damage to my arm and render some movements impossible. I can handle this as long as I am not in constant pain.

Has anyone else had similar surgery? What we’re your experiences?

Thank you in advance,

Jojo

Dear Jojobird, I'm not familiar with this type of surgery, but girlfriend, I'm just here to give you a virtual gentle hug. I'm so sorry you have to go through this.

Jojobird, I've felt very connected to your writing on the BC site whenever I've come across your posts. Please let me know what you decide about surgery and when it will be. Holding you in the light.

Oh so sorry you are going through this again!! My sister had 27 nodes removed, and it did a lot of nerve damage. She is now 3 years out. She went to Physical Therapy which helped a lot. She has some restrictive arm movements she cannot do, but overall, lives a normal life and is active. Her shoulder has gotten much better through the years. She had a 6 month checkup today and was good!

    GOOD LUCK!

    Falconer,

Thank you so much for your kindness and support. I have two scans tomorrow to check for metastases. My treatment plan and surgery are dependent on the results. Will update.

Love out to you as well, and to calling the birds home.
