Things were going well until the popsicle.

I have yet to get through around of chemo without mouth/throat trauma. The first infusion, my entire tongue became irritated. The second infusion, the tip of my tongue became irritated and I developed two painful swollen taste buds. The third infusion, I accidentally bit my lip, and the tip of tongue thing happened again, the same for the fourth, and my throat and esophagus become very tender, so this time I thought I would try to head all of this inflammation off with home made popsicles. I bought popsicle molds and made custom chemo popsicles to ice my mouth and prevent some misery, and all was going well...until the popsicle stuck to my tongue and in a panic I ripped it off and now I have defeated the purpose of the popsicle.

SO SORRY - those mouth pain, sores, tongues hurt so bad! My sister and I both did the same thing during ACT, and after one mouth sore,

it never happened again when we did this: We simply brushed our teeth the entire tie during chemo with baking soda, then rinsed our mouths with it. No toothpaste at all. I never added salt, simply baking soda.

    Ouch on the popsicle!

    All my best!

    Denise-G:

I'm on taxotere and carboplatin which I think is supposed to be more gentle on the mouth than ACT but for whatever reason, I have had more accidents during chemo, bit lips, burns, etc, than I have in my entire life.

ouch! I had good luck with Biotene mouthwash and toothpaste during chemo. Maybe that will help you. You could try a frozen coke or fruit slushie. Maybe that would help your tender tongue. Hang in there.

It's good now. It just needed a day.
