Biopsy showed DCIS but...

Hi friends,

My doc said although the biopsy indicated DCIS she feels it’s actually likely IDC mainly since DCIS usually presents as more powdery or calcifications and I have a solid mass in the duct. She ordered another biopsy to confirm. The tumor also is grade 3 and sits close to my chest wall maybe touching it. So another biopsy , MRI to confirm then she wants chemo to shrink it before surgery (lumpectomy) to make it easier for her to get a clear margin (due to how close it is to chest wall). Radiation later.

Does anyone have true DCIS that was an actual mass and not calcifications ? Thanks

My SIL did Tinkerbell. Sorry don’t know all the details. She’s about 10 years out.

Thank you. I am justwondering if there’s still a chance it could be noninvasive DCIS that I have. Will know more soon after more tests and another biopsy but just keeping my fingers crossed 🤞🏻

I'm so sorry, TinkerBell, that you were brought here to us with a complicated scenario. Yes, I also had multi-centric DCIS (Grade-III) that had appeared as solid lobules near another kind of malignant tumor (Invasive Solid Papillary Carcinoma) that had also appeared as solid on UltraSound. Sonography, I'm told, cannot always differentiate between an intra-ductal Grade-0 Encapsulated Papillary tumor (which might appear solid) vs a benign papilloma, for example. In my areas of DCIS, no calcifications were observed. There was also another type (Mucinous Carcinoma) that had not been visible on sonography in my case. I hope your lesions are benign or intraductal pre-cancers, but a fine needle aspiration might not necessarily give your team all the answers they are seeking. You may wish to ask for a pre-operative or pre-chemo MRI imaging, which your health insurance should cover. Good luck!
