Hi All,

I recently had my regular CT scan and it showed ground glass opacities in my right lung. It could be new metastatic disease or just inflammation. I have had a dry hacking cough for a couple of weeks. Has anyone else had this? If so did it turn out to be new metastases?

I’d appreciate any sharing. This has made me a bit nervous. Thanks and good health.

Nancy

Hi Nancy, As I understand it lesions look like lesions (cancer). Ground glass looks like inflammation. Actually it looks like ground glass. So little bits spread around. Not solid measurable cancer lesions.

Now I've been wrong many times before but my boss is a pulmonologist and explained all this when his wife had problems with 'spots' in the lung.

Did they say it could be cancer? It would be a funny kind of progression. What are they planning to do to confirm or rule out?

Are you taking Afinitor by chance? That did a number on my lungs.

I had opacities on my last PET but not ground glass. Mine were described as biapical opacities that are likely due to scarring. I have never had lung mets or any other lung findings on a PET. I have been freaking out a bit but am hoping the opacitiies are merely from a lingering, low grade bronchial infection I have had for the last 5-6 months. Since I started Doxil, I can’t fully get rid of this bronchial issue or a low grade sinus infection that has been kicking around for just as long, which also shows up on the PET. I hope your opacities turn out to be nothing.
