27 and worried
I'm 27 and about a month ago I weaned my daughter. I noticed a lump in my right boob last week. Idk how long it's been there because after weaning my boobs were obviously engorged for a little while and during breastfeeding my boobs were always lumpy and clogged a lot. I also have small lumps on the opposite side but none as big. I went to my PCP and she felt around and said that my boobs feel dense, with tiny lumps and I think she said grainy all over but she could feel that more prominent lump. She isn't worried, said it's most likely just fibrocystic boobs from the hormones from weaning. She ordered an ultrasound to be on the safe side, which I like more than "wait to see if it changes" but ugh the anxiety that comes with waiting for the ultrasound and then the results! I have to wait till they call me next week and I feel like i'll be a mental patient by the time all this is over (if I get good news).

Hiya Megmos! The good news is that you are young, so this is most likely benign. Of course, it's always good to be proactive of your health. It's always good to have any changes with your breasts checked out by the doctor. As for the anxiety, I can relate. I recommend keeping busy. Hang in there! Hoping for benign results for you. Keep us posted

megmos, I think we can all identify with your fear. Even though you are young and this is most likely a benign thing related to breastfeeding, its still unnerving. Nothing like a breast lump to send fear into over-drive.
It sounds like you are doing everything you should, at this point. Ultrasound is very good at seeing through young, dense breasts. Until you get the ultrasound, try to keep your hands busy. Busy hands equal busy brain. Anything that requires thinking: word puzzles, knitting, painting, baking, cleaning, planting, etc. Some people find yoga and meditation to be soothing, although it did the opposite for me. Too easy for me to zone out on. Keep your hands and brain engaged--it will help you to not perseverate so much on this. If it really gets bad, consider asking your doctor for something for anxiety.

Thanks guys. I'm trying to tell myself things like 80% of all lumps biopsied are benign (and I may not even get to that stage), I'm youngish, just got done breastfeeding so my breast tissue is still wonky, breasts are lumpy on both sides, my period is due in less than a week so it could be lumpy from that, doctor isn't worried etc. But then little sneaky thoughts pop in my head that are negative or I'm stupid and google bad things. Luckily, I have a one year old that keeps me busy and plans for the weekend. I just want my ultrasound scheduled and I hate that I have to wait till next week to even schedule it.

Yeah, Google has been terrifying us all since 1998. Stay off that stuff!

Tuesday at 1 is my ultrasound. I'm happy it's soon. Although, I wish it was Tuesday now haha. How fast do people usually find out the results?

so they just found dense/fibrous tissue and that's what causing my breasts to feel lumpy all over. Probably from my hormones. So I just go with that?
