Urgency to get armpit lump checked after lump in breast?
Hi!
So a little bit of background. I am currently 25. In 2015 when I was 22 I found and felt a lump in my right breast that over time did not get smaller or go away. It would hurt from time to time, most often when I was working out and felt like a static shock pain. No lumps in left breast. Funny enough earlier in 2015 my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer at the lowest possible stage and is now doing well. Luckily, I worked as a secretary in the radiology department at the time and got it checked out. After the ultrasound the radiologist came and told me that it looked suspicious and he strongly urged me to get a biopsy. I got a copy of the report that said it was BIRADS 4 and the lump was 3 cm wide by 1.6 cm tall. Got it biopsied shortly after the ultrasound and the results were benign, yay! However they could not definitively say what the lump was. Repeat ultrasound showed the lump was stable and had not changed.
Fast forward to 2017 and the pain was becoming more constant and uncomfortable. I was still working in radiology and discussed with the original radiologist that read the ultrasound if I should get it taken out. I talked to my coworkers who were nurses what they thought and both the nurses and the radiologist agreed that based on it's size and the pain it was causing it probably should get taken out. July of 2017 I got the lump removed. It actually turned out to be two lumps stacked on top of one another. I have some scar tissue in my right breast from after the surgery but it is tiny and I don't notice it. Rarely any pain since I've gotten the lumps were removed; I'm glad I decided to get it out.
Last week as I was shaving I noticed a lump in my right armpit. When I got dressed I felt my right armpit and compared it to my left armpit. There was a definite lump in the right armpit that was oblong almost like a paper clip but no lump in the left armpit. Felt no new lumps in either breast. I know the lump could be a variety of different things but I haven't gotten sick or felt ill in the last month or two. Overall I feel healthy and the lump in my armpit doesn't hurt at all. Just curious on how fast do you think I should get this looked at? Should I wait for a few more weeks? I know the armpit has other things going on besides possible breast cancer and maybe I had an illness or infection I wasn't aware of? Just thinking back to my experience with the breast lump before the process was so costly that I don't want to jump the gun if it is something harmless and will resolve on it's own soon. Just curious what you guys think I should do/ how long I should wait and see considering my history.
Thanks for reading.
