Adoption after cancer diagnosis

a little background: I was diagnosed May 14, 2018 at 32 years old. I was 8 months postpartum. Being HER2+, chemo was in my future and I had 2 weeks to decide whether to freeze my eggs. Insurance wouldn’t cover 1 penny of it and we couldn’t afford the $10,000 to freeze. We decided to forgo freezing and instead adopt. I also decided to be put into a chemically induced menopause to try to preserve fertility.

Fast forward: now that I have time to research and ask questions about adoption I’m realizing there is so much discrimination against people with a history of cancer. And now I’m really concerned we won’t be able to expand our family. Has anyone successfully adopted after their cancer diagnosis? I have yet to come across anyone who has

    Hi urmysunshine,

We thought you may be interested in checking out this page about Adoption after a breast cancer diagnosis from the main Breastcancer.org site. There's some great information on how to get your doctor to write a detailed letter to help your adoption case.

    We hope this helps!
