Hysterectomy

Hi,

I am 6 years out from my breast cancer diagnosis! Due to being on Tamoxifen, my gynecologist does a regular transvaginal ultrasound. For about 4 years I've had numerous fibroids causing my uterus to be enlarged. Recently, I have a very large cyst on my left ovary. I go back to the dr next week and if the cyst is still there, she wants to perform a hysterectomy, including removing my uterus and left ovary. She's debating on whether I should remove both ovaries with my breast cancer history. I also have a strong family history of heart disease and I know that estrogen helps to protect your heart. Has anyone had a similar experience? I'm needing advice on whether to keep one ovary or have everything removed. I'm 42 by the way.

Thank you!!

That's a hard decision. I'm in a similar quandary with the large rapidly growing fibroids but at last TVUS the big one had stalled. Being hormone positive it feels crazy to leave the ovaries in, but my brain, joints and a few other parts REALLY like estrogen and I may be off the drug before I'm through menopause. It would be nice to feel like myself for ten minutes.

I hope your cyst resolves! (I have to say, I have Oncotype envy. 😉)

I had no choice and was several yrs older than you. even though hysterectomy was scheduled took tamox for 7 days which I sure did not like it. have minimal issue w hysterectomy.

because you are only 42, I would get oophrectomy first. and watch a couple of yrs. medically induced menopause may cause havoc.
