Mets in mouth?

Hey all, I have done it again-I’ve dr Google-terrified myself.

For probably a year I’ve had a knot in my upper/outer back right gums. When first found, the dentist gave me several rounds of antibiotics and it didn’t go away-approach was to watch it and wait to see if it caused problems.

I’ve recently had some problems with the tooth right below that knot (sensitive, bite seems to be hitting harder on that side). I went in this week and they put me on antibiotics again and I’m going back weds to see what the x-rays look like. They seemed to think there could be infection there but but couldnt tell for sure.

Today I was driving and it just hit me like a ton of bricks: oh god what if that’s a mettumor?? Dr googled it, and this is uncommon but definitely possible to be mets.

The tooth giving problems under the knot is a root canal tooth, so I’m praying it’s just having issues, but I’ve scwted myself silly. Has anyone heard of mets to the mouth area or know anything about it?

I've never heard of mets to the oral cavity but I suppose anything is possible. Are you sure it is the gum line and not more upper mucosa? Could it be a salivary gland that has developed crystals or is blocked? I've got two friends that get horrific infections and crystals and swelling in salivary glands...no cancer.

Let us know how you do!

Hey Wally, I’ve not heard of that before so I’ll definitely ask my dentist too. Thanks for your response! I’m praying I’ve over reacted and there’s a logical explanation other than mets. :)

Meow, so sorry that sounds awful, but also so glad it wasn’t mets! Glad I’m not the only one who went there mentally lol. Hoping it’s just teeth issues for me as well. Thanks for responding!

I'd say that most of us go there, at least some of the time!

Hey all, just wanted to update. My dentist feels certain the lump is just a pocket of infection left over from a root canal that didn’t have any place to go, so walled itself off in my gums. He said he could do a procedure to open and drain it, but if it were him he wouldn’t worry about it right now with everything else I had going on.

Well, it’s not him, it’s me, and I need reassurance that it’s nothing, so I said, get it out!! Procedure scheduled for Tuesday. :)

Thanks for listening in my panic!
